About
Palolo Worm
The palolo worm lives in coral reefs and spends its life hidden in crevices. To reproduce, it grows a special tail section packed with sperm or eggs. One night during the year the tail section of all palolo worms breaks away and wriggles to the surface of the water. At dawn the sections burst apart, the floating eggs are fertilized, and the worm''s life cycle starts again.
