Dog Tapeworm

About Dog Tapeworm
Tapeworms are a type of flatworm that live parasitically inside of a variety of animals, including humans. The dog tapeworm has a small, round head equipped with several rows of hooks. Its body is divided into as many as 150 sections with each section containing thousands of eggs. The tapeworm uses its hooks to fasten itself to the inside of a dog's intestines and it lives by absorbing some of the food the dog eats. When the tapeworm eats, sections near the end of its body breaks away, carrying their eggs with them. New sections form behind the worm's head. The tapeworm hatches if it is eaten by flea larvae. If the dog eats an infected flea, it then becomes infected with tapeworm, a new generation of tapeworms.
