About Common Sootywing
The Common Sootywing butterfly is found throughout the nearctic region which is the whole of the North American continent, although it is not found in Florida. The Common Sootywing''s habitat is mainly cultivated lands and moutainous areas. It feeds on amaranths. It is usually seen from spring through autumn. As a caterpillar it is a pale green color with a dark head. As a butterfly, the Common Sootywing is dark brown as a whole with small white spots distributed throughout the edges of both fore and hindwings with most of the spots occurring on the forewings. The Common Sootywing is the darkest colored of the North American sootywings.
